A Peek of My Latest Obsession...
Monday, November 2, 2009 at 09:37PM Growing up my mom always had antiques all over the house and she was just beyond fascinated with them. Old schools desks, handkerchiefs, wooden armoires. All I could think of them was that this bed was too creaky and all the people who had blown their nose in this hanky, but to her they were pieces of history that were worth more than treasure. They had a certain smell she loves and she often would say how she wished they could tell the story of where they had been and what they had seen some hundred years ago. I admit I mostly thought it strange and at times a bit creepy.
UNTIL I went into an antique shop myself. This weekend I don't know what came over me but as we were driving on our way to a shoot I impulsively told Matthew to pull over so we could go meander around an antique shop. It was love at first smell, touch, & sight. I stumbled across an old baby carriage and you would've thought my eyes had just spotted a Tiffany's diamond ring loose in a parking lot. And I got it for $25?! What! I also purchased an old piece of luggage for $2. I already see my love of historical belongings becoming a fast obsession. We may need to buy a storage unit if I get too out of control... which I totally have a tendency to do.
Without further ado, here is the maternity session I shot for my sister-in-law this weekend with the stroller making a cameo in the background. Isn't she one beautiful pregnant woman? I mean, for reals. We should all be so lucky.

My parents house is filled with all sorts of antique clocks, wooden armoires, an old phonograph and zenith radio...it goes on and on. At first, I disliked all the clutter of old pieces of furniture and knick knacks, but they sure grow on ya! I love knowing the history and where it's been (if known). It's a very interesting hobby to get into, and often times, expensive! You never know what you'll find in those stores, so keep looking and find something good! :D
Beautiful picture and your sister-in-law is gorgeous! I can only hope that when I am pregnant I can hold my own as well as she does! I will be a sweaty, miserable, unpleasant person to be around if I'm carrying a little one with me while someone is ordering me stand in an open field posing for a photo shoot. ;) Bring on the early hot flashes! I already feel 'em coming on!
Beautiful!!!
How fun!! I love this shot... the baby carriage is so perfect.

Absolutely LOVE your work! Found you through the Shutter Sisters site. Was wondering what your background training is. Any formal training at all? If not, how did you get SO amazingly awesome??? As a side note, I read somewhere along here that you do make-up as well. Do you usually do the make-up for all of the gals you shoot? They all look incredible.
JV~ Thank you so much for your kind words! No formal training just the good ole' art of trial and error and lots of youtube videos, online research to learn photoshop, and then just playing around with my camera. I also spent a few months when I 1st started practicing poses and different shoot ideas on my friends. I don't do makeup too often, but when I do it is for HS seniors. Just a little fun side thing I offer!
